Blue Bird's In My Hand

It is fun to feed and raise parrots. I now have too many trips to other countries to be responsible like that, so I enjoy the wild birds. We keep a bird feeder full year round and have seen a nice variety of birds coming to eat. We even get a few hummingbirds.

I thought it would be fun to have bluebirds nesting in a box so I bought one and had my husband nail it up to a tree. Within a few hours, there was a cute couple checking out the box. It must have passed their inspection for they were seen with their mouths full of grass and twigs flying into the box. They made many trips that afternoon. They were so eager to have it done, I wonder if they did some night work. The next day, there was a little nest in the box.

Next came the light blue eggs. I prayed that they would not mind me getting snoopy. They were very shy and watched from a distance whenever I came to see what they were doing. I am glad it did not stop them.
I was just making lesson 25 and 26 of the Basic Bible and needed pictures of bird nests. It seemed God sent these birds to help me do the lesson on heaven. Each day I watched the eggs and was thrilled to at last see little baby birds. There were four. They were so cute and soft.
My parents taught me as a child that I must never handle the baby birds or disturb the parent birds or they would never come back to care for the babies. I prayed that God would give them peace and let me get pictures for the WEB site. They kept right on feeding the babies. They never scolded me, just watched shyly from a distance.
It was a thrill to hold the little ones in my hands. It was easier to get their pictures. I was always very careful to return them just the way they were. I used to raise parrots and enjoyed feeding the babies. I loved visiting this little nest every day. Finally they grew up and flew away. I hope they come back and visit us in the spring. The old nesting box is waiting covered with snow.
I believe God helped me get the pictures I prayed for. I believe He helped the parent blue birds not to mind having me around. God again heard my prayers. He likes to give us surprises to help us do work for Him.
There were some jealous blue bird neighbors eyeing their nesting box. Another couple set up their nest in the hallow of the tree about 200 feet away. It was not nearly as easy for me to check on those. They were 7 to 8 inches down in a dark hole.

Next spring, we will put up 10 nesting boxes. It will really be fun to see what happens. We understand the distance between them needs to be enough so they have their privacy. They don't like real close neighbors.
