Danger in The Motel |
Attending
a Pediatric Nurse Practitioner conference in Dallas Texas, I decided to
economize with my limited funds. I had just finished masters level Nurse
Practitioner training in Loma Linda University in California, and joined
my husband in Kansas. He was in medical school and I was supporting him by
working as a nurse practitioner at the health department. Besides this, I
was working private duty nursing in homes. This convention sounded
like a valuable additional training for my new job as nurse practitioner
in Kansas City. I flew to Texas, then took a taxi to the motel. I chose
a motel near the convention center. I asked the taxi driver to take
me to the motel 6 I saw on the map. He took me to one he said was closer
to the convention and was like a motel 6. |
| At that time, I was not used to traveling. I had much to learn. I can't remember ever having traveled without my tall husband along for protection. My husband had medical school studies and was unable to go with me to the convention. I was alarmed when I saw the motel did not have even a phone. The taxi cab driver was gone, I had paid him. I should have hired another cab and moved on to another motel. I decided to make the best of it for the night and in the morning find a better place. |
As
I prepared for sleep, I prayed that God would take care of me in this big
city. God heard and assigned me extra protection that night. About
midnight, I was alarmed to hear a key turning in my door and the door
opening. I screamed for the person to leave. I cried to God to help me.
The terrified man, did not like all the noise I made. He left in a hurry.
I barricaded the door with all the furniture of the room and did not sleep
more that night. I wondered if he would be back. I could not even call 911
for help. Perhaps this man saw an angel. Maybe God put fear in him.
Whatever happened, I am so glad he left in a hurry. When it was morning, I
found other accommodations. I was glad to be out of that place. I
thank God over and over that no harm was done to me that night. There are
so many times we do not know that God is protecting. I remember very
little about the convention, but I will never forget how God protected me
that night. I sure love my Jesus. |
| My husband resolved that his wife would never travel alone again into big cities. He always insisted he go when I had a board exam to take in another city. Bless his heart, he did all he could to protect me. |
