Laryngitis at Concert Time |
![]() Just
before my first year of college when I was 19, the Lord answered a prayer
for me that I will never forget. I had been with a group of fifty youth in
Roseburg, Oregon all summer learning to give Bible studies. We had formed
a singing group called "Way sharers". We were invited to Camp
Mivoden to sing. It was a special time of youth gathering from all over
the North West of the United States. We enjoyed the speakers that shared
with us that week end. I developed a terrible sore throat. My friend who
later became my husband, was leader and organizer of our music group. He
had given me several solo parts. He was very concerned that I could only
talk in a whisper. He gave me some lozenges that resulted in the skin of
the roof of my mouth peeling twice. My mouth was very sore from the
reaction to the medicine. My vocal cords were so inflamed, they
could not make a sound. The laryngitis came at the wrong time for
singing.

![]() After
claiming God's promises to supply all our needs, we went ahead in faith
and stood up to sing when it was our time in the program. It took courage
to open my mouth in the solo parts and believe that a smooth sweet sound
would come out. I prayed that God would be glorified and no attention
would be drawn to myself. (Which it definitely would have if a hoarse
sound had come out.) Perhaps my guardian angel sang in my stead but the
right music and notes were heard and the messages touched many hearts.
Many knew that I could only whisper and they stood in shock, wanting to
talk to me afterwards to hear just how bad I sounded. God was given all
the glory for after singing, there was no sound from my vocal cords.
God had honored my prayer requesting that He help me witness. I was totally unable to share without HIS POWER. |
When
facing the impossible tasks now, thirty years later, I remember how I took
God at His word and in faith stepped forward to do what looked impossible,
and God showed HIS POWER. We limit God today if we are afraid of making a
fool of ourselves and doubt His power. If our motive is to bless others,
HE HIMSELF WILL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR THE OUTCOME.
Jesus wants us to share what He has done for us. It makes Him so happy, He
wants to give more answers to our prayers.
After healing the woman, Jesus desired her to acknowledge the blessing she had received. The gifts which the gospel offers are not to be secured by stealth or enjoyed in secret. So the Lord calls upon us for confession of His goodness. "Ye are My witnesses, saith the Lord, that I am God." Isa. 43:12. {DA 347.2} When the ten lepers came to Jesus for healing, He bade them go and show themselves to the priest. On the way they were cleansed, but only one of them returned to give Him glory. The others went their way, forgetting Him who had made them whole. How many are still doing the same thing! The Lord works continually to benefit mankind. He is ever imparting His bounties. He raises up the sick from beds of languishing, He delivers men from peril which they do not see, He commissions heavenly angels to save them from calamity, to guard them from "the pestilence that walketh in darkness" and "the destruction that wasteth at noonday" (Ps. 91:6); but their hearts are unimpressed. He has given all the riches of heaven to redeem them, and yet they are unmindful of His great love. By their ingratitude they close their hearts against the grace of God. It is for our own benefit to keep every gift of God fresh in our memory. Thus faith is strengthened to claim and to receive more and more. There is greater encouragement for us in the least blessing we ourselves receive from God than in all the accounts we can read of the faith and experience of others. The soul that responds to the grace of God shall be like a watered garden. {DA 348.2} Desire of Ages by Ellen White |

you have a prayer request that you want me to pray for? God can
hear your prayers just as easily as He hears mine but He also promises
that where two or three are gathered in my name, there I am.
