SINGING DOLPHINS |
|
|
![]() The bottle-nosed dolphin, Tursiops truncatus, is
abundant off the eastern coast of North America and widely distributed
elsewhere. The bottle-nosed dolphin is a popular attraction at marine
theaters. Playful and
intelligent it is easily trained to perform complex tricks and tasks. |
![]() ![]() Because
dolphins are mammals, they must breathe air and maintain a high body
temperature. Air
is breathed through a specialized single nostril, or blowhole, situated
almost directly on top of the head. The
dolphin normally comes to the surface to breathe about every two minutes,
and each breath consists of a short, almost explosive exhalation, followed
by a slightly longer inhalation. Dolphins
can hold their breath for up to several minutes and are capable of rapid
and deep dives of more than 300 m (1,000 ft).
The respiratory system is specially modified to avoid the BENDS. |
Dolphins are predators and feed on live food.
The primary food is fish. Some
species seem to prefer squid; occasionally,
shrimp and other crustaceans are consumed, and even mollusk shells have
been found in their stomach contents.
Food consumption is estimated at about 30 kg (66 lb) a day for an
individual about 2.5 m (8.2 ft) in length and 100 kg (220 lb) in weight.
To keep one of these as a pet, you would have a big job getting food to
feed it. |
The majority of small-toothed WHALES are called
dolphins. They are mammals of
the order Cetacea and the families Platanistidae, Delphinidae, and
Grampidae and include about 50 species.
All have a beaklike snout and sharp, conical teeth. The term
porpoise is sometimes applied to many of the same species, but porpoises,
strictly speaking, are members of the family Phocaenidae and have a blunt
snout and spade- or chisel-shaped teeth.
Most dolphin species are about 2 m (6 ft) in length. The largest is the bottle-nose dolphin weighing about 440 lbs. The smallest species is the buffeo, Sotalia fluviatilis, found in the Amazon River; the buffeo rarely grows over 1.2 m (3.9 ft) in length and 30 kg (66 lb) in weight. |
Dolphins can be found in virtually all the seas and oceans of the world. Dolphins are quite abundant in some areas of the world. Off the coast of Japan, for example, populations of the white-sided dolphin, Lagenorhynchus obliquidens, are estimated at 30,000 to 50,000 individuals. |
| Gestation in the species studied is between 11
and 12 months, after which a single calf is produced. Delivery is normally tail first, and the newborn is capable
of swimming and breathing within the first minutes.
Some mothers have been observed raising the calf to the surface, as
if to help it, but dolphins apparently play in this fashion with a variety
of objects, living or not.
|
| Dolphins talk to each other in a series of clicks and
whistles. Just like the bat they have a series of clicks used for
echolocation.
|
|
Dolphins are extremely and almost constantly vocal.
They are capable of two kinds of sounds.
Just below the blowhole they have a mechanism that enables them to emit
short, pulse-type sounds. These
sounds, called clicks, can be produced in such rapid succession as to
sound like a buzz or even a duck like quack.
The clicks are beamed forward, with the oily melon serving as an
acoustic lens and the bony forehead as a reflector.
The clicks are used as a form of sonar, in which echoes of sounds from surrounding objects enable the animals to detect obstacles, other dolphins, fish, and even tiny bits of matter in the water. This ability is termed ECHOLOCATION and is found in a few other animal groups, most notably the insect-eating bats. Some scientists have speculated that dolphins also use the sounds to deliver an acoustic shock for stunning or killing small prey.

![]() ![]() School
Like many fish, the dolphins travel in schools. In many species, schools of up to 1,000 travel together, while some species, such as the bottle-nose dolphin, tend to be found in smaller groups of less than 100, or even just a small family group. Solitary individuals are, however, rare.
|
| No one can learn the song they sing except those that
travel in the same school with them. The Bible talks about a school of
people that learn a song. No one else can learn that song except those
that went through the same experiences. Just before Jesus comes the Bible
mentions all kinds of trouble. The only people who make it through, are the ones who love and trust Him and HIS WORDS. The
Bible is full of promises. God's word is power. God keeps every promise. |
They
sang a new song...and no one could learn that song except the hundred and
forty four thousand. Rev. 14:3
SONG
|
| In
the first part of the Bible we read the story of a man named Jacob who had
two sisters for wives and their handmaids. There were 12 children born to
the family. These children were called the children of Israel or the
Hebrews, or Jews.
In the last part of the Bible we learn about their grandchildren. Anyone who loves God and does what He asks can be one of the grand children. The Bible says there will be so many in heaven you can not count them all. There is a group that you can count however. It is 144,000. This group of people gets to do extra special things. They live through the end of the world and see things that no one else has seen. The world is the most ugly and sinful at the end. There are riots and angry people everywhere. God gives extra special surprises of HIS power during all the storms and wars at the end of the world. These people in the group of 144,000 live through to the end and see Jesus come. Their experience is so different from others that they have a song they sing from their heart. This special song is about what happened. Only those who went through it will sing this song. The children in this picture are flying in heaven picking flowers from the mountains and bringing them to their mom. Imagine the fun it will be in heaven when all the trouble here is finished and Jesus takes His people home. |
The
people who live through loving Jesus and keeping His ten commandments will
be so happy when He comes. His law never changes. His people know that the
ten commandments are His law in heaven. |
It
is impossible to keep the ten commandments by your self. We are all
sinners but Jesus promised help. The rainbow is a symbol that He will help
you. He has made a covenant to never leave you or forsake you. Genesis 9
and Hebrews 13:5 He mixes justice and mercy just like the colors in the
rainbow. In Revelation 10:1 Jesus the Son of God is written as an
archangel. He has power over land and sea. Over His head is the rainbow.
This shows that He thinks with mercy and justice mixed. He can forgive and
still punish. He will be faithful to help you keep the commandments if you
ask. He says He will be faithful to finish the good work He began in you.
Phil. 1:6 |
The
law of God was written on stone by God's own finger and handed to Moses on
Mt. Sinai. Before that, it was spoken and it's writing in stone was to
tell them it never changes.
When Moses threw it down, He showed the people how they had broken the law. We break God's law in our minds when we disobey even one point. If we get angry and call people mean names, we are murdering them emotionally. It is impossible without God's help to really keep God's law. This law is a description of how to love Him and each other. Heaven will be a beautiful place without any commandment breakers. No one will be mean or rude or stealing up there. In 2 Timothy 3:1-7, Paul says that there will be terrible sins in the last days on this earth. Here is the list. Hope you don't have something you like to do that is on this list. If you do, get on your knees and ask God to help you become like Jesus. There is not much time left to get ready. THE LIST Lovers of self, covetous, boasters, proud blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy, without natural affection, truce breakers, false accusers, fierce, despisers of those that are good, traitors, heady, high minded, lovers of pleasure more than lovers of God. Pretending to be godly but denying the power of God. |

| The ten commandments can be like the bat and dolphin echolocation or radar device helping you locate where the sin is in your life. Then when it is found, Jesus must help you clean it up. Like David you can ask God to create in you a clean heart and renew a right spirit in you. (Psalms 51) |
This
144,000 (one hundred forty-four thousand) people are those who have the
seal of God in their foreheads. They are settled into the truth. They have
made up their minds that they plan on keeping and obeying God's law no
matter what friends or family say. No matter how hard people make it on
them, they want to obey and are stubbornly determined to keep God's law.
Have you made up your mind? Are you determined to follow Jesus obeying and working to share His truths? If so, you have radar securely in place like the dolphin, you will know what God wants you to do. You will not be afraid. God says perfect love casts out fear. 2 Timothy 1:7 says God has not given us the spirit of fear but of power, and love, and a sound mind. |
| Put your thinking cap on: 1. Dolphins have 3 ways of talking. Name them. 2. What do dolphins eat? 3. Where can you find dolphins in the wild? 4. How big do dolphins grow and how small is the smallest kind? 5. How many species are there of Dolphins? 6. What is a large group of traveling dolphins called? 7. How many minutes does the dolphin wait till he goes up for air unless diving way down in the sea? 8. How does the new born little dolphin get air when it is born under water? 9. How much can a big dolphin eat? 10. There is a group of people mentioned that can sing a song no one else can learn. Who is this group and what do they sing about? 11. Does the law that they keep ever change? 12. Will this law be kept in heaven? 13. What does sealing mean and where is the seal? 14. What two animals have the ability to echo locate? 15. Can you say the 10 commandments word for word?
