Glow in the dark creatures are many in the natural world. There are undersea fish that glow. There are mushrooms that glow, there are flowers and rocks that glow in the dark. The firefly or lightning but has an intermittent flasher. Think about the imagination of God in creating insects with such signals!
The lightning bug has his own little flashlight.

Some call this a firefly but it is not a fly at all. It is a beetle. It is a  small, luminescent, carnivorous beetle of the family Lampyridae.

In the dark it flashes signals. A jar full of them make an impressive collection of lights. The males often live only long enough to mate. Many of them never eat. They do not live long in a jar.

There are about 1,900 species that inhabit tropical and temperate regions. The common glowworm is a member of this family. There are people like my husband who have a hobby of studying and naming the different beetles carefully. My husband often keys out insects for different universities.

The insect controls the emission of light by regulating the amount of air supplied to the cells. The female chooses the males based on their flash pattern. Flashing is not only to find a mate, it's also used as a mechanism of warning to advise predators of the fireflies bitter taste. Unfortunately, some frogs like to eat them.

For those who desire to know how this works, here is a scientific explanation for you science geniuses.

The light, believed to play a role in sexual attraction between the adults, is produced by light organs located on the underside of the abdomen. These consist of several layers of small reflector cells and a layer of light-producing cells. The light-producing cells are permeated by nerves and air tubes; oxygen supplied by the air tubes converts the cell product luciferin to oxyluciferin. This oxidation, catalyzed by the enzyme luciferase, releases energy in the form of light.

The female does not fly. She looks like a worm with wing pieces and legs.
The larvae, which hatch from eggs laid on or in wet soil, feed on snails and earthworms, injecting their prey with a paralyzing fluid. Pupation (see insect ) occurs after one or two years. Both larvae and wingless females are called glowworms.  Asian glowworms are considered beneficial controllers of crop-damaging snails and slugs. There are other luminescent insects, including members of other beetle families; the most spectacular are found in the click beetle family. Fireflies are classified in the phylum Arthropoda, class Insecta, order Coleoptera, family Lampyridae.
So gardeners love this lightning bug or firefly because it eats up slugs which destroy gardens.
Those who read the Bible carefully with delight to know God's will for their lives will glow in the darkest times of trial.
Every morning God's friends start they day by talking to Him in prayer. They ask Him to show them the work they should do. They invite Him to help in their big and little decisions. They ask Him for help to see Satan's tricks and avoid them. They read from the Bible stories of faith. The more they read, the more they love God. Every evening God's friends again talk to Him. They love to read the Bible. All day long they are talking to Him as they work and play.

MUSIC: Study to show thyself approved unto God. A workman that needeth not to be ashamed. Rightly dividing the Word of truth. 2 Timothy 2:15

Soon there will be more trouble over all the world than there is now. It is important for everyone to seek to know God. We have no time to delay. Study and learn how to handle the Word. Compare verse with verses in other places of the Bible. Study carefully, so you will know a good answer for what you believe.

Jesus was sitting on a hillside watching a wedding festival. He decide to tell the story about them to make an important point. You can read the story in Mathew 25.

The wise bridesmaids took flasks of oil. They stored up treasures of Bible stories. When they were asked to wake up and go out to meet the bridegroom which represented Jesus, they were prepared. Mathew 25:4

You have to put fuel in the airplane or it won't run. You have to put gas or diesel in the car or it won't run. The light bulb needs electricity or it will not give off light. The oil lamp must have oil for it to burn. Jesus said that when we study the Bible it is like putting oil in our lamps. It is like putting fuel in the car, airplane, or lawnmower. Without the fuel the machine will miss and sputter and stop. We need the Holy Spirit oil to help us to obey. Without it we will not be ready to meet Jesus. WE will become discouraged and stop. We will miss out on heaven.

Spirits of demons will pretend to have faith in the Bible. They will pretend to respect the institutions of the church. We must watch for the decoys of Satan. When a hunter is trying to kill a duck, he floats a pretend duck on the water. A duck flying overhead sees this floating duck. He thinks it is a real duck so he wants to join it. He does not know it is a trick. He does not know how dangerous it is.

We must study the Bible every day. We need to make sure we understand what is the truth. We do not want to be tricked.

Flubber

Fun activity: Glow in the Dark Flubber

It bounces. Christians bounce back when people say mean things.

Glows: Christians glow in the dark with God's joy and peace during hard times.

It is fun: Christians are fun people to know. They are full of joy.

2 C white Elmer's glue

1 1/2 cup warm water

few drops food coloring or 1-3 Tablespoons glow in the dark paint

Mix all above ingredients in warm enough water to help it dissolve. Set this aside and keep it ready to receive the next pan of mixture. This is called mix A

Mix B

1 1/3 C warm water

3 teaspoons of borax

Mix together till dissolved then pour into pan A. It is important that this goes into A and not visa versa. Water is to be warm not boiling hot. It will become stringy then glob together. Pour off excess liquid and work the flubber.

In a plastic carton this can last 2-3 weeks. Kids love to help mix this. Janitors hat you if you mix and then pour excess liquid down the drain. They fear the glue will clog drains.

Important to tell the kids to keep in bag or plastic carton when not playing with it. Also dirty hands will make a mess of flubber. Glow in the dark paint is toxic. It is not to eat. If children are very small, use only food coloring.
