| I was awakened to pray for my younger brother Jack, a missionary in New Guinea the night of their fire. It was night here but early morning in New Guinea for my brother and his family. Things had become real tense at their school where he was principal. There were marks on the school floor where someone had failed in their attempt to burn the school down. It was dry season and water had to be brought in for drinking. The water was carefully treasured, so that none of it was wasted. |
| He had heard many threats and took them seriously for the tribes had wars where if one was killed, the rest searched to find and kill in revenge. This spirit was carried into the school. My brother instructed those on his team of teachers and students to begin singing a certain song. One of the teachers stepped in between two fighting boys and became painfully injured with resulting broken bones. The morale of the teaching staff was really low. My brother kept them singing. He told them this certain song would bring them help immediately. That song was his clue that he had to run to their rescue. The song was "Jesus is my Captain, I shall not be moved, Jesus is my Captain, I shall not be moved, just like the tree, planted by the waters, I shall not be moved." |
Early
in the morning for them, he saw lights flickering brightly on his wall. He
jumped up to see and there was the school ablaze. As principal it was a
horrible thing to be responsible for. There was no water to fight with.
The drought was still going. What could they do? The students wanted to
save desks, and books. They were working frantically to save what they
could. They risked their lives.
My brother called them all to the chapel. The wind was blowing the fire into a terrible inferno. In the chapel all the students pleaded with God for help. |
As
they began to sing, the wind changed. It was obvious to all eyes that God
had sent HIS angels to blow the fire away from the chapel which was only a
few feet from the burning school house. With great sadness in their
hearts, the students who had dreams of becoming educated watched their
school burned to the ground. Yet their lives were spared. God had
protected them.
It was special to me to learn that God had urged me to pray for my brother when he was in grave danger. I had heard of God awakening mothers to pray for their boys in the service. That happened to my husband's grandma. I know God does not need me, but my faith is increased when He awakens me to pray. It says something special about God's personality. Anything that can increase my faith is important for future challenges I have to face. He has urged me to pray for my sons in danger while I was awake. Once Kyle was being attacked with knives, another time they were in danger in a cave slipping off a rope, falling. |
| Did you know that Stephen was stoned to death by angry church leaders but Peter was released from prison because the whole church stayed up all night praying? Did you know that your prayers for others give God extra excuses to do miracles? Did you know that there have been stories of the same number of angel guards as people praying for one missionary? Pray for this WEB site and our mission trips. It would be fun to hear from you. Let us know if these true stories are a blessing to your faith. |
" They killed Stephen, but the angel of the Lord opened the prison doors for Peter, for "prayer was made
without ceasing of the church unto God for him." There is your work.
Pray as you have never prayed before; and if you spend nights in prayer, and learn to trust God, you will have an intelligent experience. It was by praying without ceasing that Peter gained the victory, and when the angel went to bring him out, Peter was bound with two chains, and, behold, the angel of the Lord came forth, and smote Peter on the side, and said, "Rise up quickly."" {RH, April 29, 1890 par. 1} |
