Medical School Tuition Amazing Miracles 1980 & 1981

We had given up hope of getting into medical school in Kansas and looked for a little home in Loma Linda hoping to eventually get into school. If we could not, there were nursing learning opportunities.

We were all lined up to buy a home on Richardson Street in Loma Linda and were waiting for escrow to call us to sign papers. Several factors such as termite checks, lack of building permit for air conditioning and such delayed closing. We were so tired of the delay. We were waiting by the phone for we were told it was very close to closing time. The day had finally arrived. Finally the phone rang but it was word from Kansas City that they had just discovered our lost applications for medical school. They had cancellations and wondered if we could come for interviews.  It was just a few days before school should start. Just five minutes later the phone rang again. The escrow company was ready for us to sign papers for the home that we now did not want. In three days Ron was on the plane, interviewed the next morning and accepted. They had moved him from 11th on the back up list to first.

Because we had scraped all our money together over the months of anticipation for a down payment on a home, we had 4,500 dollars ready but it was used for Ron's tuition. Ron's dad arranged for a loan of 6,000 dollars. By the time books and all were purchased, he had it all added up to 10,000 dollars. Ron's precious father wired him the money just in time to cover checks Ron wrote to get into school.
I remained in Loma Linda finishing my Masters level Pediatric Nurse Practitioner course and working shifts to support both of us in our separate rental locations 2,000 miles from each other.
The separation was awful. Ron was so busy and having so much fun he said he did not miss me. I even got to the point that I told him it would be great to have to pick up his dropped dirty clothes again. It was amazing what things used to bother me so much did not look as bad anymore. His bachelor kitchen was a blessing to clean up when I flew out for a visit at Thanksgiving.
God helped me find a nurse practitioner job in Kansas City at a great reduction of pay from California standards of regular nursing pay. However the health department in the inner Kansas City was like a mission field. There were Hmong refugees needing special help. At the end of one year my 8,000 dollar grant was forgiven for serving here.
The next year when it came time to begin school again, Ron paced the floor with anxiety over shortage of funds for his second year. We had calculated we were about 400 dollars short of the 9,250 dollars. We only had 8,000 dollars from my work saved up for tuition. The school refused to let him in till he had 8,850 dollars.  Ron panicked. He called me at the health department nurse practitioner job and screamed in my ear. He wanted to sell the Datsun. I knew he would lose money on the little car we really needed for transport. I told him to hold off an hour. I prayed.
I went next door to the bank and was received very kindly. I took out a quick signature loan for his schooling and he was happily studying again. My work provided for our living expenses. God gave me extra jobs doing private duty in homes of other people. I did not have children to raise at that point so spent days and nights doing nursing to keep my husband in his medical school studies. At one point I even had five jobs. It seemed I was working so very hard for my husband to go to school and I was not getting any closer to my dream of med school. What if when he was done he decided to move away and I could not school too? I decided to go to school too. That is a different story.

God provided for all our needs in His miraculous ways including increasing my strength. In Phil. 4:19 He promises to always provide for our needs.
