Portland Home Miracle

(Actually it was in Gresham, which is so large, there is really no division before Portland begins.)

We had just a very short time to house hunt when we flew out from Kansas City to Portland in 89. I was six or seven month pregnant and uncomfortable. I was in a hurry for a home.  We prayed, and God found us just what we were looking for. It had a view of Mount Hood. I had longed for a view of the mountain. In Kansas I had longed for my home in Falls City where I grew up in Oregon. It just seemed too flat in Kansas. I longed for trees and things that made me feel like I was at home.
This home had a yard filled with such a variety of trees, shrubs, and flowers. I was nearing the time for our third son to be born, and we needed a spot with space for the boys to play safely. We were so thrilled with this three acres, a yard full of fruit trees, and a swimming pool. It was everything parents could hope for to keep the children happy.
Right at the end of the swimming pool was a grape arbor. One vine produced 100 pounds of grapes for us. These were so sweet. They also made great juice.

We prayed about it and asked God to open the doors for us if it was right. Because we were new in Oregon, it took four months for the loan to go through. We lived out of suitcases in mom and dads home for three of those months then in a camper behind Ron's.

Jesus wants us to pray often. Not just ask Him one time for something. Sometimes we let go of His arm too soon and miss out on HIS blessing.

Elijah had to pray seven times before the rain came that was promised. If it had come instantly, he was in danger of feeling he had something to do with the miracle.

God wants to bless us with the things we need and desire but He has to be careful. Sometimes it causes us to be proud and we think we are heaven's favorites. We do not deserve all that He pours out on us in blessing. We make mistakes on purpose and sometimes not even knowing we have hurt others. Jesus understands and wants us to be comfortable and happy. He loves to give His obedient followers good gifts but He knows when and how to deliver those gifts.
