Angry shouts and poundings were heard in the dining room as I was making up beds in the bedroom. I listened quietly. Daddy was telling the oldest son he could not take him along to town with him this time. The seven year old boy was so angry he was pounding and banging on things. Daddy left for town without him.
I heard screams and protests and things being thrown across the room. I dropped to my knees and begged God to help me help this boy. I had tried many things and did not seem to make any progress. Tears came to my eyes as I cried out to God from the depths of my heart. This had to stop for his sake. He needed control or he would make a fool of himself and could do violent things as life and strength progressed to manhood. Time out, spankings, chores, all seemed to never bring the desired result. On my knees I laid the problem before God.
Suddenly the answer came in such an unexpected way. The piano was being played and a clear strong voice was sweetly singing. I strained to catch every word. Tears flowed from my eyes as I heard the words of a newly composed song fresh from heaven to his heart. He went over to the phone next and called my friend Nan Stagl, my missionary nurse, the very one who has composed all Scripture songs for the Bible lessons. He  asked her to please write it up as he sang it to her.  Her heart was quick to see what God was doing.

"He is, He is, knocking at your door.

Will you, will you, will you let Him in?

I will, I will, I will let Him in.

Jesus had won that round of the battle. Satan's angels lost that evening. Great is the power of prayer! Great is God's power to break the power of Satan. Satan has appointed extra evil angels for each child of mine because of our ministry. However, every day, God sends a whole army of heaven's powerful angels. All I have to do is cry for help and He works on the hearts. All day long the battle for souls is being fought by Satan.

There is no power of hell that can defeat the soul that trusts in simple faith.

In the whole Satanic force there is not power to overcome one soul who in simple trust casts himself on Christ. "He giveth power to the faint; and to them that have no might He increaseth strength." Isa. 40:29.

The highest eloquence, the greatest physical strength, can not give man power to convict and convert souls. It is a heart-reception of the pure principles of the gospel that makes a man an honor to God, and enables him to exert an influence that wins souls to Christ. "Not by might nor by power, but by My Spirit, saith the Lord of hosts." Only thus can human beings prevail against Satanic agencies. Without God's aid, human might and strength have no more power than the wind that blows to impress aright the souls of men. The breath of God must be breathed into the soul before it can be filled with power. {Central Advance, April 8, 1903 par. 4}
Secret prayer! How precious! The soul communing with God! Secret prayer is to be heard only by the prayer-hearing God. No curious ear is to receive the
burden of such petitions. In secret prayer the soul is free from surrounding influences, free from excitement. Calmly, yet fervently, will it reach out after God. Secret prayer is frequently perverted, and its sweet designs lost, by loud vocal prayer. Instead of the calm, quiet trust and faith in God, the soul drawn out in low, humble tones, the voice is raised to a loud pitch, and excitement is encouraged, and secret prayer loses its softening, sacred influence. There is a storm of feeling, a storm of words, making it impossible to discern the still, small voice that speaks to the soul while engaged in its secret, true, heartfelt devotion. Secret prayer, properly carried out, is productive of great good...By calm, simple faith the soul holds communion with God and gathers to itself divine rays of light to strengthen and sustain it to endure the conflicts of Satan.
God is our tower of strength. {2T 189.2}
On every hand they hear the plottings of treason, and see the active working of rebellion; and there is aroused within them an intense desire, an earnest yearning of soul, that this great apostasy may be terminated, and the wickedness of the wicked may come to an end. But while they plead with God to stay the work of rebellion, it is with a keen sense of self-reproach that they themselves have no more power to resist and urge back the mighty tide of evil. They feel that had they always employed all their ability in the service of Christ, going forward from strength to strength, Satan's forces would have less power to prevail against them. {GC88 619.2}
